Queensland’s Credit Rating Downgrade
In September 2024 after Labor’s final budget, S&P reaffirmed Queensland’s AA+ credit rating. They confirmed Queensland’s outlook was stable.
Now, the state has lost that AA+ credit rating and have been downgraded – something that hasn’t happened in almost 20 years.
David Crisafulli promised a ‘superior economic case’ but instead he has delivered reckless spending on the wrong priorities.
The credit rating downgrade will cost Queenslanders an extra billion dollars in interest payments – and this at a time when the government is refusing to detail how it has spent nearly $50 million of taxpayer dollars on advertising ‘the new Queensland government’.
Premier gags debate on Olympic costs
Before he became Premier, David Crisafulli promised transparency.
Now he has gagged parliament from debating the true cost of the Olympics. Subsequent to this he’s confirmed he will not be providing regular updates.
It didn’t have to be this way. After dramatically blowing out the cost of hosting the Olympics by going back on his “no new stadiums” promise, the very least he should do is to come clean on the cost of his plan.
Scared to speak out
The Courier Mail has reported “Community service organisations too afraid to lose funding to speak up against Qld LNP govt”.
At a time when Queensland’s Housing affordability is the lowest on record and vulnerable people are already facing difficult decisions the last thing they need is this government making their lives more unstable by defunding critical services.
“Queensland’s peak body for community services says organisations tasked with keeping vulnerable Queenslanders safe are too frightened of losing their funding to speak publicly about government policies.”
“Advocates across the child safety, domestic violence prevention, youth justice and housing sectors claim to have received abusive phone calls from senior figures within ministerial offices, with some dragged to government headquarters at 1 William St for a dressing-down.”
DV organisations have already seen a $40 million cut to DV prevention by the LNP, while another $42 million has been cut from homeless services under the Crisafulli Government.
