Labor’s Health Motion blocked
Yesterday we learned that a 53-year-old man died after waiting two hours for an ambulance. Two hours!
When you call Triple Zero, when you call an ambulance – you deserve for it to turn up, to take you to the hospital and get you the healthcare you need. But under the LNP our ambos are under so much pressure, our hospitals so underfunded that people are dying. And yesterday we tried to move a motion in the house to acknowledge the death of this man, to extend our thoughts to his family, friends and the frontline workers. To advocate for the beds our communities across the state so desperately need.
But before it could even be considered, the LNP blocked it. More obsessed with spin and self-promotion, they didn’t even want to listen to what we wanted to move. What does that tell you about David Crisafulli and the LNP that they voted to block a motion to simply acknowledge the death of this man. I think this man deserved better, that our frontline workers deserve better, I think you deserve better – better than an LNP government who won’t build the beds we need.
Our paramedics should be out on the streets saving lives as they are trained and paid to do, not stuck ramped at a hospital. The ramping data reinforces the strain our hospitals are under. In August alone, 42 per cent of patients were ramped statewide. Paramedics lost time increased to 17.2 minutes. This is the biggest jump in figures in a single month since the LNP came to government, and only just shy of their record high last July. The LNP’s decisions are hurting Queensland’s health system.
Failing our children
Damning statistics have been uncovered of David Crisafulli and the LNP’s child safety failures. It’s a system the Queensland Family and Child Commissioner has labelled “one of the least transparent systems [he’s] encountered.” One that he says he no longer has confidence in.
Under the LNP the number of children harmed has increased. The number of children in residential care has skyrocketed 34 per cent to 2,800 in less than two years. At the same time 90 per cent of assessments required to be carried out by the department within 72 hours did NOT happen.
Ninety-one children known to child safety died last year. David Crisafulli needs to admit his failures and if his Child Safety Minister won’t take action, he needs to.
Failing workers
The LNP has introduced laws to take away your rights at work. The Newman-era attack on workers is back as Jarrod Bleijie seeks the power to stop teachers, nurses and police from taking protected industrial action.
In the dead of night, David Crisafulli’s right-hand man Jarrod Bleijie has declared he’s coming for workers’ rights including the right to access compensation and collective action as you fight for better pay and conditions during conciliation or arbitration.
